How We Package and Ship Holiday Orders Safely

How We Package and Ship Holiday Orders Safely

December is our busiest month of the year. We run multiple printers at once, prepare colorful batches of ornaments and bookmarks, check orders twice, and then shift into packaging mode. A big part of our holiday success comes from how we package and ship each item.

Here is a behind-the-scenes look at the process we use to keep your orders safe, protected, and ready for gifting.

Step 1: Careful Inspection Before Packaging

Every item is checked before it enters the packaging area. We look for:

• smooth surfaces
• clean edges
• accurate colors
• sturdy attachment points
• flat bookmarks with no warp
• ornament loops fully solid

Anything that does not meet our quality standards is reprinted.

Step 2: Preparing Each Item for Protection

Each type of product has its own method.

For bookmarks
• placed in protective sleeves
• stacked on a firm backing card if multiple are ordered
• wrapped lightly to prevent sliding

For ornaments
• cushioned to prevent pressure on loops
• wrapped to avoid scratches
• grouped carefully for large orders

For business cards
• packed in rigid protective cases or thick mailers
• NFC chips tested before shipping
• wrapped to avoid friction marks

This makes each package feel thoughtful and gift-ready.

Step 3: Choosing Strong, Rigid Mailers

We do not use flimsy envelopes during December. Every order ships in either:

• a rigid mailer
• a reinforced bubble mailer
• a small cardboard box

Bookmarks and cards use rigid mailers for flat, safe transit.
Ornaments and multi-item bundles use padded boxes.

Step 4: Protecting Multi-Color Prints

Multi-color prints need special care. Vibrant surfaces can scuff if left loose. To prevent this, we use:

• soft wrap layers
• clean tissue paper
• non-abrasive cushioning
• double-padding for high contrast designs

This protects the crisp edges and details created by the AMS.

Step 5: Adding Tracking and Handling Notes

Every holiday order includes tracking. For delicate sets, we add:

• “please do not bend” labels
• internal cushioning
• layered packing
• clear labeling for multiple items

Shipping carriers handle thousands of packages each day. These steps help keep ours safe.

Step 6: Organization Behind the Scenes

During December, packaging becomes an assembly line.

• printers running
• items cooling
• batches moving to the finish table
• shipping labels printing in waves
• trays for bookmarks, ornaments, and cards
• packing areas kept clean and organized

It looks hectic, but every step is designed to keep orders accurate and protected.

Step 7: Final Gift-Ready Touches

Even small touches can make a package feel special. During the holiday season we often include:

• themed wrap
• extra care for gift orders
• tidier presentation
• clean packaging colors

It helps the whole unboxing feel warm and personal.

Final Thoughts

Shipping 3D printed items safely during the holidays is part science and part care. Once the prints come off the machines, the real work begins. With the right packaging, cushioning, and organization, every order arrives looking exactly the way it did in the studio.

Thank you to everyone who supports makers during the holiday season. Every order means the world.
